It has been a great first week back! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer break and are ready to make some outstanding music this year. Please check back to this blog often. I will post information about what we are studying in the classroom as well as upcoming performances. This year, we will have 5th & 6th grade musical about Pirates! We will begin choir the 2nd week of Sept.
Also, this year the 4th graders will perform in their first musical. It is a wonderful musical that celebrates special holidays that occur in the month of December. I will be sending home dates soon so families can be sure to mark these events on their calendars.

2nd GRADE MUSICAL - A Day at 7 Oaks
The 2nd graders have just started working on their spring musical. It is a musical centered around our 7 habits and the characters from 7 Oaks. Students will be singing songs that match up to the message of a particular habit. The musical will feature singing, dancing, instruments and our terrific 2nd grade actors!The date of the musical is scheduled for Thursday, May 8th at 7pm. We will perform for the entire school during that day and perform that evening for family and friends. Please mark your calendars now!
5th & 6th GRADE MUSICAL
The musical is just around the corner! It's hard to believe we are just over a month away. We have had snow days and delays to deal with but the kids are doing a fantastic job catching up! Below is a reminder of the dress rehearsals and performance dates and times. PLEASE mark your calendars. The dress rehearsal dates are especially important. It is the only time we have in the gym with costumes, lights, and the sound system.

CINDERELLA

DANCE MARATHON!!
The students completed a 5 week dance unit with Mrs. Cicero and myself. We learned dance moves from several different decades and dance routines of various musical styles. The students enjoyed a dance marathon which featured a disco ball in the gym! They did an impressive job!

3rd Grade Spring Musical
The 3rd grade will be performing a spring musical on Wednesday, May 15th at 7pm. Please mark your calendars now. Our theme is colors and we will sing songs featuring all the colors of the rainbow. Students will have special acting, dancing, and singing roles. We will also perform during the day for the school.

The 5th & 6th grade choir members just auditioned for their spring musical, Cinderella. The students did a fantastic job singing and acting and the castlist is posted outside the music room. We will have 2 casts and 2 separate performances. This week, students will be bringing home an important letter about details regarding the show. It's great to be back after a long maternity leave and wonderful summer! I would like to welcome all the new students and families to WES. We have a great year planned with awesome music-making.
To start the year, all grades will participate in the WES Olympics. In all related arts classes, the students will be competing in events, creating flags, researching about all things Olympic. Specifically in music, we will participate in music-themed events, compare and contrast different National Anthems, and talk about the role music played in the opening and closing ceremonies.
For 5th and 6th grade students, choir begins in a couple weeks. I will be posting specific information about our annual spring musical including performance dates and auditions.

Welcome back from our winter break! We have some wonderful music to explore in the next few months before I go on maternity leave.
The students will have a chance to meet my maternity leave substitute teacher sometime in February. She is very excited to work with such a great community as WES.
5th & 6th graders - We will be wrapping up our jazz unit with a computer lab project.
4th graders- We will begin a recorder karate program, which will teach treble clef note names and reinforce some of our fundamentals of music theory.
3rd & 2nd graders - We will continue our composers and instrument family study.
1st & Kind. - Through exploration of movement and music, we will learn more about the building blocks of music.

SEPTEMBER UPDATES
We are already making some great music at WES. The older students have been working on their xylophone technique and fine-tuning our rhythm syllable language. Meanwhile, the younger students are exploring their vocal abilities and working with rhythm instruments.
The 5th & 6th grade choir has auditioned for the musical The 7 Habits on Broadway. Auditions were great and we've assembled a wonderful cast of singers and actors. The show is scheduled for 3 performances in December. More information will be posted at a later date.
The 4th graders also have a musical scheduled in December. The musical is called Crazy Carols and changes the lyrics of well-known Christmas carols. The whole show focuses on snow days, a favorite among students and teachers alike.

2nd Grade Musical - A Day at 7 Oaks

MUSICAL!!!!

The 5th & 6th grade choir members have been hard at work this winter rehearsing their musical, Rats! The Story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Our upcoming performances include an in-school performance for classmates and an evening performance for parents, family and friends.
